Pollença market: the perfect Sunday, explained

Pollença market is on Sunday mornings, 8:00 to 13:30, in the Plaça Major and the surrounding streets. It is the plan we recommend to every guest for their first Sunday: the town working as a town, not as a stage set.

What you'll find (and where)

• Plaça Major and around it: fruit and vegetables from local farms, olives, herbs, flowers. The authentic part is here.
• Adjacent streets: crafts — palm baskets, ceramics, glass, traditional Mallorcan llengües fabrics.
• Vía Pollentia: the most touristy stretch: clothes, leather, souvenirs. Cross it quickly and get back to the square.

How to do it well

Arrive before 9:30 or after 12:30. In between, the town fills up and parking gets complicated. From the villa you are in the centre in 5 minutes: our trick is to go early, buy the fresh produce, have breakfast and be back at the pool before the crowds arrive.

Breakfast is part of the ritual: a cortado with an ensaimada, or bread with olive oil and whatever you have just bought. On the square you pay for the location; two streets away the same coffee costs half. More addresses in our food guide.

The villa-week shop

This is what really changes a villa holiday: filling the kitchen with local produce on your first Sunday. Ramellet tomatoes, Mahón cheese, sobrasada, seasonal fruit, Tramuntana olive oil. A market shop for the whole week comes to around €40-60 and turns every poolside breakfast into the best moment of the day.
