Villa Pontarró

Villa for cycling groups in Pollensa

Ten beds, ten minutes from where the routes start

Every spring the north of Mallorca fills up with cyclists, and not by chance: some of the best roads in Europe start from Port de Pollensa. Villa Pontarró is ten minutes away and sleeps ten — which happens to be the size of a group that comes over to ride for a week.

What a cycling group actually needs

  • Somewhere for the bikes. There is plenty of room to keep them indoors, not under a tarpaulin in the garden.
  • Parking for four cars on the property, or for the group’s van.
  • Pool and garden, which after a long stage do more for recovery than any hotel.
  • A full kitchen, so you can have breakfast at seven without waiting for a buffet and cook when you get back.
  • Four bathrooms for ten people: nobody queues after the ride.

The routes, from the door

Cap de Formentor is right there — about 35 km there and back from the Port — and in summer car access is restricted during the day, so the road is left almost entirely to bikes. Sa Calobra, the most famous climb on the island, fits into a long day out from the house. And the Lluc loop over the Puig Major is the big mountain ride of the week.

We go through all of it in our cycling guide, with distances, climbing and the best time to come.

When to come

February to May is the main season, with professional teams training here. September to November has the same weather and half the people, and it is our favourite. In both, the house is on mid-season rates: split ten ways, that is a very different number from August.

Under cover and inside the property, not under a tarpaulin in the garden. There is room for a group of ten without stacking them on top of each other.

Yes. The parking is private, within the grounds, and takes four cars or whatever combination of van and cars you arrive with.

  • When is the best time to come and ride?

February to May is the main season, with professional teams training here. September to November has the same weather and half the people, and it is our favourite.
